- Museum of The Palace of Fine Arts.
Recognized as the first art museum in Mexico, it
was opened with the name of Plastic Arts Museum in 1934 as the first building
devoted to exhibiting art for his contemplation. Since 1968 and after being the
National Museum of Modern Art, the exhibition halls of the palace were
recognized as the Museum of The Palace of Fine Arts, name that is
known nowadays.
- National Museum of Anthropology
Considered one of the most important museulogical
enclosures in Mexico and Latin America, the current National Museum of
Anthropology (MNA), located in Mexico City, was specifically designed to
shelter the most important archaeological and ethnographic collections in the
country.
MNA building has
23 permanent exhibition halls, a room for temporary exhibitions and two
auditoriums.
- Desert Museum
Located in the
city of Saltillo in the state of Coahuila, the desert museum brings together paleontology,
biology, geology, anthropology and history to understand better the ecosystem. The
museum has four exhibition halls showing the main characteristics of desert: its
geology, its wildlife and its flora. Also it presents Mexico’s largest dinosaur
fossils collection. Vsisitors can enjoy
the museum gardens which own vegetation of the area; they can observe cactus, montagu,
yuccas, agaves, among others.
- Museum of Death
The National
Museum of Death, in Aguascalientes, offers a look at this fundamental aspect of
Mexican culture. The museum consists of religious and art objects related to
the death. The collection includes works by renowned Mexican artists as José
Guadalupe Posada and Francisco Toledo and authentic colonial and prehispanic
pieces.
The museum is
located within the University Cultural Center of the Autonomous University of
Aguascalientes and opened to the public in June 2007, during the celebration of
the 34th anniversary of the school.
- Regional Museum of Yucatan
Regional Museum
of Yucatán "Cantón Palace" was opened in December 1959.
There, it shows
the most important aspects of the culture: the first settlers and their
environment; the evolution of the development of complex structures such as
palaces, temples and buildings; the formation of the state with a socio-political
organization; rituals and business relations; Mayan worldview and sense of
transcendence after death.
- Casa Azul, Frida Kahlo Museum.
Turned into
museum in 1958 and located in one of the oldest neighborhoods in Mexico City,
Casa Azul is one of the most beautiful enclosures and, according to official
data, the second most visited museum after the National Museum of Anthropology.
It was home of the international mexican painter Frida Kahlo; there you can
find the personal objects of the Latin American artist with the greatest projection
in the world.
